Obituary for Roy Thomas Leavens

In March, our dear Father lost his battle to cancer in Brockville, Ont. He is survived by his children Gordon Leavens (Lynn) in Ottawa, Bryan Leavens in Montreal and Joanne King (Glenn) in Charlottetown, and his dear sister Lilly in Montreal. He is predeceased by our beloved mother Frances, his wife of 40 years.
Also predeceased by his adoring parents and sister Anna. Lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Andrea, Adam, Amy, Christopher, Glenn, and Micah as well as several great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his partner Christina.

Roy grew up in Montreal's tough St-Henri neighbourhood. He was a top-notch auto mechanic for many years. When there wasn't much money, he walked to work for miles to make sure we were warm and fed. We are grateful for his love and devotion to us.

Our father was a brat. A tease. A prankster. We will miss that about him the most. But the special joy that he brought, and his favourite life experience, was when he stepped in as hockey coach for the Panthers in the Pee Wee league (Verdun). The team lost games regularly. Roy volunteered to coach them - he arranged
practices, found a sponsor, picked up kids who needed rides and helped them all to become a winning team within two years, travelling for tournaments in Quebec and New York. To this day, he is remembered from that time. He was tough, fair and kind.

We wish we had more time with you. We will never forget. Goodbye, Dad.
