Obituary for James Edward Laforty
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family wishes to announce James Edward Laforty’s peaceful passing May 3rd, 2023 at the age of 84 years. He will be profoundly and forever missed by those who love him dearly.
A long time resident and farmer in Delta Ontario, he was an avid fisherman and hunter, a voracious reader of history and beloved family man. He was born August 5th, 1938 to Liz and Henry LaForty of Delta. He attended Athens district high-school, graduating in 1957. He worked at DuPont for over forty years until retiring in 1999. He moved from Brockville back to the family farm and raised cattle until 2012.
James is survived by Joan (nee Lumsden), his loving wife of 63 years. Dear father to his three children Cynthia (Mitchell), Jimmy (Jennifer) and Dr. Jack LaForty (Tammy). Devoted grandfather to Jessica (Phil), Heather, Robert, Samantha, Callahan, Stanley, Claudia, Victoria (Drake), Maya and Ben. Doting great-grandfather to Henry and Thomas. Also survived by his sisters Gwen and Joan (Wendell) and brother Joe (Debbie). Predeceased by his parents Liz and Henry and his brother Doug.
In his memory, as a lover of nature and the outdoors, donations to the Duck’s Unlimited Canada would be gratefully acknowledged by the family.
The family would like to thank the staff at Maple View Lodge in Athens who provided such excellent and compassionate care throughout and in his final days.
A private family ceremony will be held on May 27th, 2023.
