Obituary for Darwin Charles Deir

It is with sadness the Deir family announce the passing of Darwin at Sherwood Park Manor on Friday March 10, 2023 at the age of 71.

Much loved brother to Donna Healey of Richmond Hill, Debbie Lefave (Stephen) of Gananoque. Darlene Deir (Dick Zufelt) of Brockville and Dale Deir of Athens.

Loving uncle to Jamie Van Hoek. Kyle and Jenna Healey, Logan Deir, Brittany and Brianne Lefave and great-uncle to Ada Wilson.

Darwin was predeceased by his parents Hubert and Maureen "Minnie" Deir of Athens, brothers Douglas, Derrick (Rick) and Shawn Deir.
A private family internment will take place at a future date.
Donations to Sherwood Park Manor directed to the nursing department would be greatly appreciated by his family.

During Darwin’s younger years he spent time playing with his brothers at the family farm, helping out with farm chores. He enjoyed playing hockey and played goalie for the Athens Aeros.

Darwin was a graduate of ADHS where he excelled in school, in particular math and accounting, and won awards for highest marks in math.
He went from high school to work at Automatic Electric for a short time until a tragic car accident left him in a coma for several months in a Toronto hospital.
Rehabilitation followed for several years after at St. Mary’s on The Lake, in Kingston.

When he was well enough, after recuperating from home, he moved to Ottawa for a while but did not like the cold. From there, a very special aunt and her husband, who was a doctor, invited him to live with them on Salt Springs Island. After a time, he made his way to Vancouver where he lived for several years enjoying photography and volunteering at various organizations. He worked for a framing company taking inventory and bookkeeping duties.

Upon his return home to Ontario in 2013 he suffered a stroke which led him to reside at Sherwood Park Manor for the past 10 years.

A accident that changed his life when just a teenager. It didn’t change his beautiful smile. Rest in peace Darwin.
Forever loved, Forever missed.
