Obituary for Barry Neil Whiteland

The family of Barry Neil Whiteland are grieving the loss of their brother, uncle, godfather , cousin and friend. Barry passed peacefully Nov. 16, 2022 at the BGH Palliative Care surrounded by family.

The son of the late Charlie and Jean (Fresque) Whiteland, he is survived by siblings Ted (Susan) and Randy Whiteland and Laura (Dave) Reilly. Barry was the devoted and loving uncle of Allison Whiteland and Terri Whiteland (children Keanna and Calvin), Casey (Christa) Reilly (children Chloe and Callie) and Jamie (Trisha) Reilly.

He also leaves to mourn are his best friends Tom and Viv Muldoon and their family of England, a long friendship formed in the 70’s while teaching in the Bahamas. Visiting them in England, enjoying the architecture and theatre was the highlight of his life. We are beyond grateful for their very recent visit with Barry.

Barry was a well known thespian who served on the boards of the Brockville Operatic Society and Brockville Theatre Guild, as well as Producing, Acting, Directing and Makeup and he was honoured with Life Memberships. Barry was overwhelmed by their support, video and unending visits during the last month of his life.

He was a collector and supporter of the visual arts from a wide source of local artists and artisans which he proudly displayed in his home.

He lovingly referred to his living room as the Lynn McLean Art Gallery. Barry enjoyed his Shoreview home and the caring neighbours and we are particularly grateful to Diane Ladouceur’s compassionate 24 hour support and friendship.

Barry was employed by Customs Canada, Port of Lansdowne for over 29 years. Many of his work friends called or visited and the “ladies” gifted him a beautiful blanket which hugged him at the end.

Family first was a favourite motto of Barry’s and when able, he loved attending the dinners, sports or school events. One of his final gifts to family was being dads caregiver in our fathers last year. Barry leaves a big void in our lives and we will all miss his “heard above everyone else” laugh, his quick wit and positive attitude.

In memory, please support the charity of your choice and our family would also like to recognize and pay tribute to the Palliative Care Team of the BGH.

Barry will be buried alongside his parents in a private family service at Roselawn. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
